Road Conditions: Check for seasonal closures, this itinerary is recommended October to May.

Day 1: Wangaratta to Bright
Start your adventure in Wangaratta:
Known for its rich history and gourmet food scene, Wangaratta is the perfect launching point for your journey.
Visit current exhibitions at Wangaratta Art Gallery or enjoy a coffee at one of the town’s many cafes before hitting the road.
Book ahead for a delicious lunch stop at Brown Brothers Milawa Vineyard, where you can indulge in wine tasting and gourmet food pairings.
Stop in Myrtleford:
Take a quick stop to sample wines at Gapsted Wines, renowned for its picturesque setting and delicious local varietals, or tuck a case or two in the boot to enjoy in the evening.
Then cruise on to the charming town of Myrtleford nestled in the Ovens Valley, Myrtleford is known for its vineyards and rich Italian heritage. Plan your trip to align with local markets, or explore an array of shops from opportunity shops, antiques, sports and rec, caravan sales and more.
A must see for a unique experience is Red Ramia, a stunning emporium of furniture, rugs, exotic homewares and pottery you can also grab a caffeine hit or delicious snack at Cafe Fez.
End the day in Bright:
Surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, Bright is a favourite among travellers for its vibrant autumn foliage, cozy cafes, bustling streets and outdoor riverside activities.
Take a walk along the Ovens River, explore local shops, or relax with dinner at one of the town’s excellent restaurants.
Must-visit dining spots include Reed & Co. Distillery for craft spirits and unique dining experiences and Elm Dining for modern Australian cuisine.
Stay overnight to fully enjoy Bright’s charm.

Day 2: Bright to Dinner Plain
Morning in Harrietville:
Just a short drive from Bright, Harrietville is a quaint village with a rich gold-mining history.
The day starts with a road-side stop at Dolly's Cafe Caravan, where the coffee's are sensational and the homemade sausage rolls can't be missed, is a must!
You'll also need to pop into Harrietville Bakery just up the road, and grab yourself an award winning vanilla slice (not a fan of a sweet start to the day, keep it in the esky for later, you'll be so grateful you did)
Cool off on a hot summer's morning with a dip or a wander around the Harrietville dredge hole, a local hot spot swimming hole and hive of wholesome family fun featuring nothing but a wholesome jetty, floating pontoon and a rope swing.
Climb to Mount Hotham:
Ascend to the alpine wonderland of Mount Hotham, one of Australia’s premier ski resorts.
In the off-season, the area offers breathtaking views from easy access road-side look outs and great hiking trails.
Enjoy what you picked up at the bakery in the new Alpine Gateway Visitor Centre, a most unique public visitor centre with views expansive views and modern clean ammenities.
Arrive at Dinner Plain:
A unique alpine village designed to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings,
Dinner Plain in Summer is a tranquil retreat.
Hotel High Plains is centrally located, and after check-in to a comfortable room, take a leisurely walk around the village, returning to a High Country inspired dinner at Hotel High Plains. Locally sourced Cobungra Station Steaks & smoked meats head up the menu, along with gourmet Pizzas, delicious cocktails, Ginger Beer on tap and an extensive wine list that pays tribute to region you have so far explored - unwind by a crackling fireplace or on those balmy nights in one of two beer gardens under the shade of gorgeous gumtrees.
